Wanting to create a following. Developing web site associated with Children Health Issues. Also, utilizing twitter as sort of a Internet text reality journey thru Masters Nursing Program. Any ideas?

Using Twitter to develop a following is a good idea... combine that with a WordPress blog that has an RSS feed to subscribe to and an opt-in list on the blog and you provide 3 methods to follow you.
I have exactly that setup on my blog at www.FrankBauer.name
Anytime I post a new blog entry, it's automatically submitted to Twitter to inform all followers. I use for that a WordPress plug-in called Twitter Tools. Another plug-in to add twitter to your blogs sidebar is TwitThis. You can find both plug-ins on Google by doing a search for them.
Using this setup you can build a following simply by posting great quality content on your topic on your blog on a regular base.
